Modern Foreign Languages
In an increasingly multicultural society, languages play a more predominant role in our everyday lives.
The MFL curriculum equips students with the linguistic knowledge and skills which cultivate genuinely positive attitudes towards diversity in other nationalities and cultures, as well as their own. Students are provided with the tools and the opportunity to communicate with speakers of French and Spanish. Language learning is a skill for life that enables students to think beyond the classroom about its real purpose in an enjoyable and rewarding way.
In Year 7 all students study French for 4 hours per fortnight. In Years 8 and 9 French continues to be studied alongside Spanish and students have 3 lessons per fortnight of each language. At Key Stage 4 students opt to take French, Spanish or both to GCSE which forms part of the English Baccalaureate.
