Music, Drama and Sport
At Wigmore, we believe that every child should have access to enriching experiences that help them grow into the best version of themselves. That’s why we are proud to offer a variety of opportunities that expand their cultural capital, ensuring they thrive in both learning and life.
Music at Wigmore
Music forms a integral part of the curriculum, and we are passionate about giving every child the chance to explore and develop their musical talents.
We offer peripatetic lessons in a wide range of instruments, from woodwind and brass to the drums! If your child is interested in learning an instrument, simply email [email protected], and we’ll connect you with a specialist teacher.
Thanks to our partnership with Herefordshire Music Services (Encore), all Key Stage Two children have the opportunity to learn instruments such as the recorder and the ukulele, developing skills in teamwork, rhythm, and performance.
Our School Choir is a source of great pride! They regularly perform at school events and take part in the exciting Young Voices concert each year, an unforgettable experience where children sing alongside thousands of others in a spectacular arena event!
In additonal to all of this, we also hold a Key Stage Two Carol Concert in the autumn term. This is held at Wigmore High School and is always sold out. It is a wonderful way to embrace the beginning of Christmas! Finally, we welcome spring in with our annual, Sing Spring In! A chance for all the children to perform at Wigmore High School and celebrate the sunshine being upon us!
Drama at Wigmore
At Wigmore Primary School, we believe that drama, public speaking, and strong communication skills are essential for life. That’s why we provide exciting opportunities for children to build confidence, express themselves, and develop their oracy skills in creative and engaging ways.
Our school is bursting with talent! We regularly host competitions such as Poetry Recitals and Wigmore’s Got Talent, giving children the chance to showcase their creativity and performance skills in front of an audience.
Every half term, families are invited to watch their child’s Class Assembly, where pupils proudly present what they’ve been learning in a fun and interactive way. It’s always a highlight for parents and children alike!
Our Early Years and Key Stage One children steal the show each year with their heartwarming School Nativity performance. Our Year 6 pupils take centre stage in their unforgettable end-of-year play, celebrating their time at Wigmore before they move on to new adventures.
Sport and Healthy, Active Lifestyles at Wigmore
At Wigmore Primary School, we are immensely proud of our commitment to sport and promoting a healthy, active lifestyle for all our pupils. Through exciting partnerships, competitive opportunities, and a wide range of sports, we inspire every child to develop confidence, teamwork, and a love for physical activity.
We are privileged to work with Shrewsbury Town FC, who support the delivery of our PE lessons while incorporating Wigmore’s core values. Their involvement, alongside the Premier League Primary Stars programme, helps inspire children to be active, develop key life skills, and even supports staff in delivering high-quality Physical Education.
Pupils compete in thrilling in-school events such as cross country, netball, and football, fostering teamwork and healthy competition. Wigmore also regularly competes in tournaments across Herefordshire and Shropshire, excelling in indoor athletics, dodgeball, football, and cricket against other schools.
Each term, we offer a fantastic range of sporting clubs, run by both staff and expert external coaches. These clubs not only keep children active but also provide pathways into community sports clubs, helping them continue their sporting journey beyond school.
At Wigmore, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to enjoy sport, develop resilience, and embrace a healthy, active lifestyle. Whether they’re competing, learning, or simply having fun, there is something for everyone!
