Head Teacher's Welcome
A very warm welcome to Wigmore School.
Wigmore School has a superb reputation for high standards offering a wide range of educational experiences in a safe and orderly environment.
We are a small secondary school of 450 pupils serving the needs of children aged between 11 and 16 in our local community. Our rural catchment area is large, encompassing villages that border Shropshire, Worcestershire and Powys. As a small school, we pride ourselves on knowing our pupils and their families well, providing an individual approach to their education.
We are incredibly pleased by the comments we receive from visitors to the school about the outstanding behaviour of our young people. We have high expectations of uniform and behaviour.
At Wigmore, pupils have a positive and purposeful approach to learning. Pupils benefit from the advantages of enthusiastic and approachable teachers who are specialists in their subjects. Staff challenge and support our children according to their individual needs.
Wigmore School continues to be popular in the local community and has traditionally been over-subscribed for admissions into Year 7. We are a successful school that prides itself on ensuring every child is happy, safe and successful. With a strong focus on pupils’ welfare, the school strives to ensure that all pupils are prepared for life after school and achieve their academic potential.
Academically, pupils are encouraged to have high aspirations. Pupils make excellent progress. GCSE results are consistently well above national averages with many pupils achieving the top grades of 7+ (A/A*) in a range of subjects. They develop a strong sense of belonging as they are expected to contribute to school life and participate in a wide range of enrichment opportunities.
The experiences that the children have at Wigmore are very important to us. We are committed to developing the whole child and ensuring the children have a rounded education. Each year, we provide residential trips for all cohorts to various destinations in the UK and Europe. We are very excited about a link we have developed with our partner school, Matemboni School, in the Tanga region of Tanzania.
Our pupils succeed and are happy here. Wigmore is a school where an equal emphasis is placed on all areas of education, i.e. academic, performing arts, design and technology, sports and creative skills. Success at Wigmore is celebrated by the whole community.
The planned admission number for pupils into Year 7 at the High School is 90. If you would like your child to join the school, we would love to hear from you.
