Head Teacher's Welcome

 Wigmore High School has a long and deserving reputation for excellence, both in terms of the character that we foster in our young people and in the high academic standards that they attain. Our motto ‘Enjoying Learning Together’, encapsulates what we want for our school; a place of safety, fun and community, where your child can truly realise their potential.

The High School forms one part of a federation of schools along with Wigmore Nursery and Primary school within the pretty little village of Wigmore in the heart of rural Herefordshire. Our small setting and well-established community mean that we know children and families well, having seen many generations of children through our doors. Several staff send their own children to schools in the Trust, helping to further enhance the family feel. At Wigmore, you will belong.

Academic results regularly put us around the top performing schools in Herefordshire and we were the highest performing state school in Herefordshire in the headline Progress 8 performance measure in 2022. In 2023, Ofsted not only recognised the excellent progress that students make at the High School, but also the quality of personal development that we provide with quotes like;

• “Wigmore is a friendly, welcoming school. Pupils have a common understanding of the importance of values like empathy, equality and teamwork. This results in positive relationships and a shared commitment to their learning’”

• ‘’Leaders have designed an ambitious curriculum which is successfully accessed by all pupils. Pupils learn well and achieve good examination results”

• ‘’Leaders place great importance on pupils’ personal development as well as their academic learning”

• “Work to support pupils with special educational needs has improved since the previous inspection and is now an area of strength”

Children at the High School take part in educational trips across the UK and Europe, they participate in shows and musical events and engage in a range of sporting activities against schools both inside and outside the county. For example, last year our Year 10 students visited CERN in Switzerland, Year 8 headed to France and Year 7 students engaged in a range of activities at an outward-bound centre. A broad and balanced education at Wigmore is all about these memorable moments.

Wigmore draws children from a wide geographical location around the north of the county and even over into Wales and Shropshire. We run a range of transport routes to bring children to the school, working in partnership with the Local Authority transport services. Whilst we are often oversubscribed, places do still appear from time to time throughout Key Stage 3. Give us a call if you want to find out more about life at Wigmore. We’re happy to show you around any time and give you a chance to talk with the hundreds of advocates who attend our school every day. I’m sure we’ll convince you that Wigmore is the best place for your child.
