Outdoor Learning and Forest School

At Wigmore Primary School, we are very fortunate to be surrounded by a rich and varied environment that allows for outdoor learning, including a Forest School site with log circle and fire pit. We believe that firsthand experience is fundamental to the productive and successful learning of children. Learning outside can encourage an improved understanding of our surroundings, opportunities to assess and manage risks, enrich the curriculum, have a positive effect on children’s self-esteem and facilitate many skills including the ability to work with others.

At the back Wigmore Primary School, we are fortunate enough to have a dedicated Forest School site for pupils and staff. Children in the EYFS (Acorn and Oak Class) access the site each week. The rest of the school visit the site at least once a week for six weeks during the academic year. Whilst at the site, children have the opportunity to work with a variety of tools and materials as well as develop our school garden. We have two dedicated Level 3 Forest School Leaders that support the whole school to enjoy our beautiful grounds across the Academy. We make use of several wooded areas and our school pond enhances our curriculum further with opportunities to take part in activities such as pond dipping.
